Writing can be a lonely task. So writing a daily blog from the hull of a 65-foot yacht competing in the round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race is a challenge to have the most hardened hack running up the white flag.

As the sort of person who gets seasick on the Serpentine, no-one was ever going to ask me to be the actual on-board reporter (OBR). However, I was able to mentor the OBR for a few days before departure and provide some tutoring in narrative techniques, tone of voice, presentation, accuracy and balancing the sometimes conflicting demands of brand strategy and editorial integrity.
